Douglas Hall Ladies crowned Champions of the CWSSL Premier League
Wilton 1-2 Douglas Hall
Douglas Hall Ladies crowned Champions of the CWSSL Premier League in a narrow victory over a typically dogged Wilton.
Our Ladies came out of the gate the stronger of the two sides pinning Wilton back for most of the first half. We came close to scoring on a number of occasions with several great strikes.
The game ebbed and flowed with the midfield 3 of Hall going head to head with the midfield 3 of Wilton. Plenty of years of experience in the middle allowed for an entertaining display. Maggie Duncliffe, Amy Cambridge and Stacey Paul more than held their own and kept pushing the away side on.
Wilton looked dangerous on the wings at time but Claire Cooney on the left and Ciara Desmond on the right were unwavering in their defensive duties.
The first goal came on the cusp of half time however when Aoibhe Noonan delivered a lovely corner into a dangerous area for Emma McCarthy to head the ball home.
HT Wilton 0-1 Douglas Hall
Douglas Hall started strong again in the second half for the first 10 minutes of the second half but Wilton began to find their stride. Tracey Kiely helped settle the nerves with her usual safe hands in goal and this pushed Hall on. Laura Cooney, Stacey Paul, Allie Mullins and Kadie Lambe looked dangerous every time they pushed forward and Hall felt another goal would get the result over the line.
With 10 minutes to go Hall won a corner and up stepped Amy Cambridge to deliver another lovely cross, Wiltons keeper tried in vein to get a finger to the ball but fortunately for Carissa Murphy, she was just short of the ball. Douglas Hall 2-0.
Wilton did manage to pull a goal back with a couple of minutes left but excellent defending from Emma McCarthy and Carissa Murphy, Hall held on to claim their first League title in the CWSSL Premier League.
